Blood Drive Comes to Clark

By Tori Benavente in Campus

The Oregon and Southwest Washington Blood Program will hold a blood drive next Wednesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the main campus.

The “Bloodsmobile,” where students donate blood, will be located outside of the Penguin Union Building.

Evette Olive, a donor representative who has organized blood drives at Clark since 2005, said that the goal is to get 25 people a day to register to donate.

“The turnout really varies, we used to have close to 50 students participate and now the average is 22,” Olive said.

The OSWPB provides blood for all of the hospitals in Clark County and Oregon.

“For Clark County we need about 50,000 pints and collect maybe 11,000,” the representative said.

“Only six percent of the population donates blood,” Olive said. According to Olive, many argue they have never been asked.

Merriam Luther from the health center at Clark works with OSWPB to spread the word about upcoming blood drives by hanging flyers around campus.
