A member of the nonprofit organization Shared Hope International will speak about the warning signs and raise awareness of human trafficking on Feb. 19 in Gaiser Hall.

A 20-minute documentary will tell the “true story of two All-American teenage girls tricked into trafficking,” according to the event’s brochure.

Washington’s Task Force against Trafficking Persons reports that Washington state is prone to human trafficking because of close proximity to Canada, abundance of ports, and vast rural areas.

The statistics “make you sick,” said Sami Lelo, program support supervisor for Clark Student Life. “I had no clue it was so prevalent here, that it’s happening on a daily basis.”

The event is from noon to 2 p.m. and is open to the public. Pizza will be served.
