College President Hosts Open Forum

Clark College President Bob Knight hosted an open forum Monday evening in PUB 161, where he answered staff and students’ questions.

The topic that dominated the discussion was the plan to make College 101 a required course for incoming transfer students.

“The data shows that students really want more structure,” Knight said. He said he hopes that increased structure for students will improve Clark’s quarter-to-quarter retention rate, which he described as “painfully low.”

Only 73 percent of non-Running Start students from Fall quarter continued into Winter quarter this year, according to the Office of Planning and Effectiveness.

“College 101 will pay dividends in the long run,” Knight said.

Another topic of discussion was the STEM building, which has experienced no major delays and should finish construction in late spring or early summer and open in the Fall, according to Knight.
