Clark Stretches Bullpen To Top Linfield

After sweeping Clackamas Community College over the weekend, the Clark baseball team utilized eight of their listed 16 pitchers during their home game against Linfield College’s JV team Tuesday evening, beating them 16-7.

Clark (No. 1) amassed 34 runs in the series of four games against the Clackamas Cougars (No. 2), who put up a meager 15 runs over the course of the weekend.

The Penguins’ started top pitcher Chase Vanek, who pitched a full game to open the series against the Cougars on Friday.

Vanek had a chance to rest against Linfield after sophomore Rian Bassett started the game. After Bassett threw for an inning, Vanek pitched the second before Clark turned to its redshirt bullpen to cap the win.

“We recruit arms,” said head coach Mark Magdaleno simply.

Linfield College is an out-of-conference team, which led to an interesting game as Clark was 11-14 overall this season with a win percentage of 0.440. However, Clark has a conference winning percentage of 0.750.

Linfield was coming off a 14-7 loss to Southwestern Oregon before their loss to Clark.

Clark was set to play at Linfield to kick off their season on March 5, but the game was cancelled due to rain. This was their first meeting of the season.
